Can an Oura Ring replace WHOOP? Vita reads what it writes to Apple Health

Yes — and Oura is the best-suited of these devices. Once you enable the Oura app's Apple Health sync, Vita can read its sleep stages, HRV and resting heart rate: all three readiness inputs are present, so there's no need for a WHOOP band.

Important caveats

You have to enable Apple Health permissions in the Oura app, and they're per-metric — grant sleep but not HRV and sleep is all Vita gets. Oura's own Readiness score is proprietary and never written to Apple Health, so what Vita shows is its own readiness (same class of inputs, but Vita's baseline and weights). The two numbers won't match exactly, and that's expected. A ring is also inherently weaker on workout detail than a watch, so if heart-rate zones matter to you, pair one. Readiness needs about 7 days of baseline; the first sync backfills 30. These scores are estimates for general wellness, not a clinical assessment.

Does Vita connect to an Oura account directly?

Not today. Oura arrives via Apple Health: the Oura app writes sleep, HRV, resting heart rate and more, and Vita reads from there. One fewer cloud account to authorise; the trade-off is that you only get the metrics you ticked in the Oura app.

Why doesn't Vita's readiness match Oura's Readiness?

They're different scores. Oura's Readiness is a proprietary algorithm that never reaches Apple Health; Vita's readiness uses the same class of inputs (HRV, resting heart rate, sleep) with Vita's own baseline and weights. They usually move together — the absolute numbers needn't agree.

Is a ring alone enough, with no watch?

Yes. The ring supplies the main inputs for readiness, sleep and Body Age. What's missing is workout detail (heart-rate zones, exercise duration), so the load score runs conservative — if you train often, a watch alongside is fuller.

How do I confirm the sync is on?

On iPhone open Health → Browse → Heart Rate Variability → Data Sources & Access. If Oura is listed, it's flowing. Check Sleep and Resting Heart Rate the same way.
